I had *so much fun yesterday photographing Alexis. She was entirely too easy to fall in love with! I owe a big thank you to mom Karen for inviting me to your home!

Horse Rescue of North Scottsdale

I had (another!) extraordinary experience yesterday that I just had to share. By now you probably know I’ve been shooting for East Valley magazine Perfectify. The owner of the magazine, Kristi Larsen, has recently allowed me to contribute a column about making the world a better place– which I feel strongly that each of us has the power to do, if we only knew how. The current June issue, available on the magazine’s website if you don’t receive it!, has my first story on HEAL International (these guys are my heros) but I couldn’t wait to post about my next article.

Horse Rescue of North Scottsdale is run by two fabulous women, Holly Marino and her 13–year old daughter, Madison. Together they’re saving horses who would otherwise be destined for slaughter, mainly because the racing industry has run them to injury and now no longer finds them useful. Personally I believe horse racing should be illegal, but that’s not the story. The story is that this 501c3 organization *really* needs help feeding the horses-the current economy has really hurt them. “100% of donated funds go directly to the horses’ tummies,” says Holly. And it’s tax deductible. Check out the next issue of Perfectify for the full story, or donate online at www.rescueahorse.com. And yes, their site does whinny at you when you go there. They do need a new site too, but the Paypal donation link is active and secure.

Madison with Joe, a Thoroughbred with an ankle injury from his racing days. When he’s healed, in about a year, they hope to get him adopted into a family who will use him for trail rides.

Sparky, who gave me a playful bite on the arm for not having a camera made of carrots. Sorry, buddy! I’ll remember to bring snacks the next time I visit!

New look

We decided to ditch the old flash interface on our home page and we now have a much faster and easier to use site.  Take a trip over to www.snapfactory.com to see what we’ve done with the place.  It’s a work in progress but I think it’s a good start.

I had the pleasure of shooting a while ago with local artist John Hadlock. John designs very cool chairs, and has been featured prominently in a juried exhibit by The Furniture Society. I promised I would wait until his announcement and publication was official, but I think I can now show off this really cool rocker he created.

New Radio Ad

We’re going to be running a short advertisement on some local radio stations over the next three weeks.  Here’s an MP3 copy of the ad.  Feel free to download it, put it on your iPod, send it to friends, memorize the script and recite it on the street, or play it at your next pool party.

Joan for web

A recent portrait I did for a new columnist for Perfectify Magazine, Joan Upton. She has the brightest blue eyes and was so awesome to work with. This shot was done in our local community instead of the studio since we happen to live so nearby each other. I sat her in a (mostly) shaded spot with the lake behind her as a background, and used a little fill flash from my 580 on-camera flash which gave her that nice catchlight in her eyes. I love the studio but it really is so nice to shoot on location!
